Pipeline Monitoring
Continuous detection of leaks, third-party interference, and right-of-way threats along oil, gas and water pipelines — measured on the fibre running with the line itself, not sampled at intervals or patrol points.
A leak that's detected but not located still costs a survey crew and a shutdown, and most pipeline damage begins as activity on the surface long before product ever escapes. Distributed sensing addresses both problems from the same monitored route. FibreLeak reads the thermal signature of escaping product along the full pipeline path and reports where the anomaly sits, while FibreGuard's distributed acoustic sensing detects and classifies surface activity — excavation, vehicle movement, manual digging, illegal tapping — and locates it to the point of occurrence. Together they turn the fibre already laid alongside the pipeline into a continuous instrument for both leak detection and security monitoring, rather than two separate systems bolted onto the same asset.
Because the sensing element runs the entire route, coverage extends across remote sections where patrols and cameras are impractical, and both capabilities scale with the pipeline rather than requiring additional hardware at intervals. For gas service, or on routes where third-party interference is the more likely failure mode, FibreGuard's acoustic layer adds an independent detection method alongside FibreLeak's thermal sensing, and FibreConnect can bring gas analysers into the same operator picture. The result is layered detection over one monitored route — leaks caught and located, interference caught and located — feeding a single operational view instead of fragmented alerts from disconnected systems.
Demonstration
FibreGuard — Distributed Acoustic Sensing
FibreGuard monitoring a pipeline route by distributed acoustic sensing: buried cable installation, detection of surface activity along the right-of-way, and event location across a 50 km reach in each direction from the unit.
FibreLeak — Distributed Temperature Sensing
FibreLeak is our distributed temperature sensing unit. Escaping product changes the thermal profile around a pipeline; FibreLeak registers those rapid fluctuations in temperature and resolves where along the route they occurred.
